Figuring out why exactly actor Ed Skrein left the role of Daario Naharis after the third season of Game of Thrones is one of the enduring mysteries of the show. The last time the actor sat down to talk about the topic, he said that “it wasn’t as straightforward a decision as it’s been made out in the press…In a lot of ways I would have loved to have carried on and stayed working on that.” Okay, great. But were there other ways in which you didn’t want to carry on, and did those ways outnumber the first kind of ways?

Skrein who’s currently headlining The Transporter Refueled, an action movie that opens this weekend—recently fielded questions on the topic again with toofab, and his answers clarified…very little. “Contrary to reports, I didn’t walk away [from the show],” he said. “I wouldn’t walk away, there are very few things in my life I’ve walked away from. This is a complicated industry and there’s always politics involved.” Okay, now that answer seems to imply that the producers decided to replace Skrein, but it’s still kind of murky. If he just said “I was fired,” it would really clear things up. And in any case, does saying that he “didn’t walk away” necessarily imply that he was asked to leave? Maybe this is more of a “I didn’t walk away—I decided to pursue other opportunities” situation.

There’s video of Skrein saying this stuff over on toofab, by the way. I hope Skrein can live with himself knowing that I’ll be rewatching it ad nauseam looking for clues in his intonation, because it’s difficult for me to leave well enough alone.

''In this industry you have politics and things like that, so nothing is ever as straight forward as it’s reported. It was a character that I would’ve loved to have continued to portray, and he’s a wonderful character, but you know Michiel Huisman’s done a great job taking over the mantle, and that’s the way it goes, you know?''

In the video below, the Waif (it’s difficult to tell if it’s Faye Marsay or her stunt double) runs along a wall and either jumps or falls off of it. According to Los Siete Reinos, who are reporting from Girona this week, this sequence is set to appear in episode 8.

Los Siente Reinos shared a photo of two rows of soldiers whose shields, onlookers claim, bear the golden rose of House Tyrell. L7R’s sources report that Natalie Dormer may also be in Girona.

Someone was spotted wearing this Cersei-like Westerosi costume around the theatrical set today in Girona. It’s not clear if that’s Maisie Williams or another actress with similar hair:

It looks like another familiar face will be joining Game of Thrones for season six.
According to the agency CV of British actor Richard E. Grant, the actor’s most recent television work is on Game of Thrones. A role is not listed, nor a specific director. No official casting announcement has been made, so this is a complete surprise.
An accomplished film and television performer, Grant recently starred in the series Digand appeared in Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, and Girls. The actor rose to stardom in the modern classic Withnail & I, and has appeared in an eclectic variety of work since then, including Henry and June, L.A. Story, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Spice World, Gosford Park, and The Iron Lady. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. (Seriously, he’s in everything.)

Assuming the CV listing is accurate, who is Richard E. Grant playing? There are many roles left unfilled at this point, as HBO has not been hugely forthcoming about season 6 casting. We still don’t know who is playing Randyll Tarly, Aeron Greyjoy, the actors of the theatre troupe (from our casting breakdown list today),  Lord Karstark or Smalljon Umber, and several more characters.
If the character casting descriptions are interpreted broadly as the show sometimes does, Grant could be any of the remaining roles. (Except Smalljon, and the Dothraki roles.)

Who do you think Grant will be playing in season 6?

Game of Thrones production in Girona recently completed a stunt-filled sequence involving Arya and the Waif in Girona. MAJORS SPOILERS AHEAD. Potentially massive plot developments lurk after the cut.

WOTW reader, Chantal, provided several photos and clips of the Girona set for which we, at WOTW, are profusely grateful.

Maisie Williams, her stunt double and Faye Marsay recently filmed a scene in which Arya jumps out of a window and escapes into a side alley while the Waif pursues her wielding a bloody knife.

Sources say that neither Maisie Williams nor her stunt double appeared to be wearing contact lenses so it’s safe to assume that this sequence takes place after Arya regains her sight.

You can watch the stunt itself (albeit behind a screen) in the video below and more clips from on set on Chantal Galleana’s YouTube channel.

Los Siete Reinos brings us a new report from Canet de Mar, Spain, home of the lovely Castell de Santa Florentina. Confirmed as a season 6 Game of Thrones location in July, it has been widely speculated as a potential site for bringing Horn Hill, the Tarly family castle, to life in the new season.  And it turns out, the speculation was correct!

Game of Thrones will be filming in three areas at this location: a courtyard, a large room called the King’s Room, and a bedroom. The show is expected to spend three days shooting at the castle. Production moves there on September 9th to begin preparing, and shooting will take place September 12-14th.

We’ve spoken with the people at Los Siete Reinos, and they were kind enough to share information with us that confirms for us without a doubt that the Castell de Santa
Florentina is Horn Hill. The info also provided a few spoilers for season 6!

Spoilers below.

According to the information L7R acquired, there will be a family dinner scene in season 6 at Horn Hill. It includes Randyll Tarly, his wife (the show character name unconfirmed), his daughter (name unknown) and son Dickon. The look of the dining room will emphasize the Tarly skill as huntsmen, with antler trophies decorating the room. This dinner will be interrupted by Sam’s arrival.

L7R’s representatives also encountered director Jack Bender during their visit to the castle which hinted that the Tarly scenes would fall in episodes 5 and 6 next season.
